The Quickie Lickie Laundromat in Aruba received some great publicity the other night. They were featured on the Jay Leno’s show. Here is a copy of the article form the Bon Dia newspaper.
Fortunately, I have my own washing machine and clothes line here at my shack on the island. No need to avail myself of the Quickie Lickie services. You have to admit, that is a great name for the business. Catchy, informative, perfect.

Rincón Colombia is a great little Colombian restaurant located on Main Street in San Nicolaas. You’ll find this place just a block down the street from the World Famous Charlie’s Bar. I’ve been snacking here for years and find the food delicious, economical, and very reliable. One of my favorite dishes is the chuleta colombiana, pictured below.
That’s a breaded and fried pork chop seen above. Very filling, plenty of garlic, fries and rice in case you need the double-starch calories. Then there is the lomito, which you’ve seen before in my other posts but one more look won’t hurt. Here it is.
Can’t beat that after a hard day at the foundry. You’ll see plenty of locals, both of Colombian descent and other nationalities eating here every day (closed Sunday). Go early or after the lunch rush. They also serve fruit smoothies and homemade drinks that will perk you right up after a morning at the beach.

Win Tung Home Center sells everything from complete sets of furniture to common household items to tools to T-shirts. This is a zany place, one of those businesses here in Aruba that never disappoints. You may go here looking for something as innocuous as a plastic laundry basket and come out an hour later with a three frying pans, half a dozen screw drivers, and a lamp. Here’s a look at their building.
It’s tons of fun to check out this place on a regular basis because every time a ship calls at the port it’s possible Win Tung received another container of “stuff.” Upstairs is where you find the furniture, everything from living/dining room sets to complete office arrangements. Much of it is the high-lacquer style popular in Asian countries but they do have a variety of choices. Prices here are usually quite good but it always pays to shop around this island. Sometimes one item is much cheaper than the same item somewhere else.
Finally, check out the lion statue closely. You’ll see a small lion atop the foot of the big lion. Both are roaring and that’s sure to chase the evil spirits away. Right?

The Tia Rosa Snack Truck is located just south of the Pos Chikito circle in Aruba. It used to be in another location, but moved last year. Many people stop here for the pastiche and other local snacks. Here’s a photo of the joint.
Don’t be fooled by this photo, which I took on Sunday when the place is closed. They open early, at 4AM for those of us who stay out all night in San Nicolaas, and do a steady trade through most of the day. You’ll frequently see a line here. But, it’s worth the wait. I pop in for an ice-cold Coca-Cola or something small when the mood strikes.
