Fermin’s Bar BQ (Aruba), video visit

Stopped in for lunch at Fermin’s Bar BQ today. A friend recommended the joint, telling me the cook won the local bbq contest three years in a row. This place is easy to find, from the high-rise hotel area, take the road to the main intersection in Noord, then turn right and keep looking on your left. It’ll be easy to find because there’s usually plenty of cars there and a big sign. Here’s the video visit:

I enjoyed the ribs and chicken platter, which comes with two sides. My regular sides were the cole slaw and garlic mashed potatoes. I added the baked beans because baked beans always go with bbq. It’s a hearty meal and much better than the regular grilled ribs you find at so many places around Aruba. Also, the beer is ICE-COLD which helps tamp down the Aruban sun. Prices are local, the scene is local, and you’ll fit right in. Bring your friends for lunch and enjoy!

Baby Back Grill, Aruba

Baby Back Grill is one of those local joints in Aruba that will fill the hole in your gut. Here’s the grill all fired up.

There are ribs and chicken on there, among other things. These are grilled meats, not low and slow roasted like you might expect. Bring your teeth and plan on chewing. So, here’s the ribs and chicken platter that includes corn on the cob, dinner roll, macaroni salad, and baked beans.

And here’s the fish platter (grouper) that came with salad and french fries.

And finally, here’s the menu, which as you can see, has plenty of selections.

Note those prices are in Aruban florins, meaning you get a good value. This place is on the end of the main shopping street in Oranjestaad. It’ll take a little creativity to find parking, but if you’re into this kind of food at low prices, go for it! Enjoy ever meal!

Uncle Kenny’s BBQ, Aruba, video

After passing by Uncle Kenny’s BBQ for a couple of months, it was time to stop in and give it a try. This place is located near the Certified MegaMall on the access road that parallels the main highway between Oranjestaad and the hotel area in Aruba. There’s plenty of parking in front but only a couple of tables with shade. Plan for a take away experience. Here’s a video showing you a typical Aruban Sunday BBQ feast:

Man, that was a lot of food! Tasty, too. I expected it to be saltier but it wasn’t like some of the other joints that really load up the ribs before they hit the grill. This would be a good place to pop in after a day at the beach or for an inexpensive snack. Bon dia and don’t forget the cholesterol lowering medication of choice.

Canton Overseas, Aruba

Canton Overseas is a little bar/restaurant I stumbled into last week while running errands on the east side of Oranjestaad. I like small, local joints for snacks or an ice-cold Coca-Cola. Passing by this place, I saw a pleasant looking Chinese woman working an outdoor grill with real charcoal under the metal. I thought to myself, hey, this is worth a try. In I go to find a buffet line with roast chicken, ribs, fried rice, and a bunch of other items. Naturally, I ordered up a couple of plates. Check it out.

Simple fare to be sure. That’s roast chicken and a some pieces of spicy chicken, too. The nice thing was, you could buy each piece and mix and match. Can’t beat that for variety and value. Two platters as shown, with tap water followed by a Coca-Cola cost all of 21 florins, about 12-13 US dollars. Great price. I’ve been back a few times with good results. The young man working behind the bar has also taught me some Chinese words which will come in handy sooner or later.

Bon dia.
