Joséphine, Barcelona (restaurant)

Located in an upscale neighborhood on Pau Claris, Joséphine delivers atmosphere from a bygone age, complete with live music, fine food, and a great bar.

Seating inside and out provides options for all. I took a seat inside for supper one evening.

Tasty and well-presented food arrives thanks to a friendly staff. I tried a special of the night, which was a tenderloin served atop hot coals with artichokes and peppers:

This dish was excellent because the coals stayed hot for quite a while, enabling me to let the meat cook to exactly my style. Of course, dessert was a must. Take a look at this chocolate cake and ice-cream:

As sometimes happens, I was too busy eating and talking to photograph the starter salads, one Caesar, one mixed, both fresh, crispy, and delicious. Had a few cocktails after the meal while enjoying a woman singer who provided entertainment. And the people watching here is another bonus. A great experience while visiting Barcelona.

Juan Valdez Coffee, Aruba

There is a Juan Valdez Coffee shop open in Aruba. It is located near the Alhambra Casino in the adjacent mall. I stopped in for a little treat this evening. Very good. Take a look:

The chocolate cake was nicely balanced. Not too sweet, not a hint of bitter flavor. Here’s a look at the case loaded with other treats for those of you looking for a bit of variety:

Gil’s Restaurant, Roxborough, PA

On Ridge Avenue in Roxborough, PA, you’ll find Gil’s Restaurant. I consider this place to be a neighborhood joint where you’ll find Italian favorites done right and served up by a friendly staff. So, let’s get right to the food. Started out with some appetizers including a beautiful shrimp cocktail and this version of a caprese salad:

Gil’s Pomodoro and Mozzarella.

Then there was an entree of sea bass with clams, which I thought was an exotic combination. Check it out:

This was reported by my companions to be delicious. I enjoyed a simple chicken parm that was tasty. Of course, we had to have dessert. My usual is tiramisu, which came in a huge portion. Then there was this chocolate cake:

What a great feed! Gil’s is also a BYOB and we guzzled nearly three bottles before the night was over. The nice thing about at BYO joint is it saves you the liqour markup. Gil’s prices are very reasonable. The setting is like a big living room in your pal’s house. The service is friendly, cheerful, and willing. Stop in here and keep it on your list of regular places.

Taste of Belgium (in Aruba)

Taste of Belgium is my new favorite spot for dessert in Aruba. I had been resisting the addition of another place like this in an effort to control the expanding waistline. That battle is temporarily suspended. Let the fun begin! Stopped in here a couple of nights ago. Ordered chocolate cake with chocolate ice-cream. Here’s a photo of the whole shebang:

I forgot to mention there was coffee, too. Check this out.

That little shot of liquor on the side puts the concoction in the high-horsepower range. Delicious. And how about that silver tray service. Classy. I found everything here very tasty and especially appreciated the good service. There was a young fellow on duty. He did a good job tending the table. Also, this place is glassed in from the bustle of the surrounding Palm Beach Mall, making it easy to have a nice conversation. Enjoy your visit. If you see me there, don’t comment on my bulges.
