El Bernardino, Segovia, return…

I’ve been to El Bernardino in Segovia, Spain, many times. It’s a popular restaurant, but don’t let that bother you. Simply go a little earlier than the usual meal time. You’ll have a seat, great service, and darn good food.

DSC_2897Of course, they do a delicious cochinillo here, have a great wine list, but don’t miss the ponche segoviano dessert seen below:

IMG_1841The dessert is worth a stop here. I did mention the wine, and here’s a tasty bottle you can find most anywhere.

IMG_1840The albariño wine goes with many things. Enjoy every meal. Take your time, too!

Moasterio de la Armedilla, Spain

Driving south from Peñafiel toward Segovia, I came upon the ruins of the Monasterio de Armedilla.

The plaque above shows a rendition of how it once looked. Today, you’ll find ruins of the main buildings:

And here’s a look inside:

It’s amazing how many ruins of structures like this exist in Spain. One need only drive along some of the more rural roads to encounter them.

Just be careful doing any exploring. There many be dangerous conditions and creatures about.

Peñafiel Castle, Spain, quick look

Here’s just a few snapshots from Peñafiel Castle. I had been there several years ago, took the door, and checked out the wine museum. All very interesting. Here’s a look at the main gate:

And just for fun, here’s a view over the nearby countryside.

Fields and vineyards for as far as the eye can see. It really is beautiful. Then again, most all of Spain is. Take your time to enjoy it all.

Asador Don Jose, Peñafiel, Spain

Spain maintains its food traditions to an extremely high level. This is one of things I enjoy about visiting Spain, the consistent traditions. Well, at Asador Don Jose, you’ll find some fantastic lechazo, roast lamb that is, prepared exactly right.

This is a simple place, with friendly owners who are truly pleased to have you. I was walking this area when I noticed two local couples chatting, waiting for the restaurant to open. Surely, that’s a good sign. Inside, you’ll find a cosy dining room:

And the aroma coming from the nearby kitchen will set your appetite up for the tasty delights. Sorry, I didn’t catch a photo of the food because I was enjoying the wine seen below:

Enjoyed a great meal that filled me up for the rest of the day. Seriously, this is something to enjoy with a group. Best to walk up to the castle afterward to burn it off.
