Pet Burial Ground, Aruba

There is a Pet Burial Ground near the southern tip of Aruba. It is located several hundred yards beyond Baby  Beach. There you’ll find makeshift wooden crosses, small piles of rocks, and even elaborate grave markers, all erected by loving owners for their dearly departed friends. I made this video, which shows the general area and some details, too.

Of course, all pet owners understand the sense of loss and bereavement that occurs when a pet passes. What I like most about this place is the personal nature of each marker. These aren’t things created by professionals, but rather individual works that reveal as much about the owner as they do about the pet.

If you happen to come to Baby Beach or are just out for a drive on the island, stop by this area. It is a poignant reminder that we’re not alone on this planet, that our pets enrich our lives every day, even after they pass into the next world. And always be kind to animals.

Sole Mare Restaurant, Aruba (video)

Sole Mare Restaurant offers fine Italian food to Aruba’s visitors and locals alike. The restaurant is located close to the high-rise hotel area. Reservations are highly recommended as this place fills up around seven and remains busy through the evening. Here is a short video of the meal we had last night.

The typical dishes you would expect are done very well here. You can count on the veal parmigiana, the various pasta concoctions, and the daily specials to be to your liking. Especially tasty is the fried polenta that is brought to your table soon after you sit down. This is a crispy on the outside – perfect on the inside type of starter. Just don’t eat too much or you won’t have room for everything else.

Bon dia from Aruba.

My Front Office (video)

For those readers of this blog who claim that I don’t really use a fountain pen, please check out the following video. It’s not exactly my front office, but a place across the street from my house in Aruba where I do some writing from time to time. Here’s the video:

That’s a Mont Blanc 146 pen I’m using with Mont Blanc blue ink. Not that you can tell precisely because the video degrades on YouTube. Still, I’m there working away, spilling words onto the page that will eventually get typed into my computer, edited, and hopefully come out of the printer as a worthy story. You never know. However, with a view like this, the words come easier.

Stay tuned, I’ll post some more videos of my writing haunts and fountain pens in action just for fun.

Bon dia from Aruba.

Matthew’s Restaurant, Aruba (video)

Matthew’s Restaurant is located at the Casa del Mar complex in the low-rise hotel area of Aruba. It fronts the beach and you can hear the ocean lapping the shore while you eat. We stopped there for lunch yesterday, as both my wife and I had a hankering for a cheeseburger. Well, we chose the right place. Check out this video for proof.

Service here is friendly and attentive. The prices are a little high until you consider you are beachside and on an island in the Caribbean. The menu has many more items, so give it a try for more than a cheeseburger. They also serve dinner, which I’m sure is quite nice given the setting. It’s places like this that make Aruba a sure bet for travelers from all over the world.

Bon dia!
