Cape May Airport, (KWWD)

On one of my recent flights, I flew directly over Cape May Airport (KWWD). Didn’t have time to land. Anyway, take a look through the prop wash in this photo and you’ll see the field.

It was a great day to go flying. Clear skies, low humidity, and plenty to see along the way. Always do your checklist.

Fellini’s Cafe, Media, PA (USA)

Well, my regular Italian joint closed down a couple of years ago, and I’ve been looking for a regular spot with good food, reasonable prices, and decent atmosphere. There it was, right under my nose: Fellini’s Cafe in Media. The place is noisy and friendly, fairly priced and well-staffed. So let’s get the food. I like things simple, the old favorites. How about a caprese salad? Yeah, take a look:

I like the little extras that came with that caprese salad, a little more flavor, a little more texture. This place is going all the way. Moving right along…

Great dressing on those greens. Now for more of the usual done right  in a very, very big way, like spaghetti bolognese, enough for three people as the next photo shows:

As long as we’re into pasta, let’s double down with the seafood linguine. Check it out.

Don’t even ask about dessert. No way was there room. Plus, there was plenty to take home for the next day. As mentioned above, service here is great and the prices are almost too cheap. It’s a good thing to have a place like this to drop in on a random day when you need a food fix. I look forward to becoming a regular.

New Hope & Ivyland (video visit)

The New Hope & Ivyland Railroad operates steam locomotive No. 40 along the tracks between New Hope, PA (USA) and Lahaska. You have your choice to travel in open air cars or a comfortable parlor car. I recently took a ride on this train in the cab of the locomotive, which was very interesting. It’s hot, dirty, and hard work up front. Here’s the video:

Riding in the cab gave me an appreciation for what it was like a hundred years ago. There used to be thousands of locomotives like this working around the country and the people who kept them operating knew what they were doing. If not, well, a steam boiler explosion was a terrible thing. If you have the chance and the inclination, I recommend experiencing this type of living history. If for no other reason, you’ll see what it was like in the “good old days.”

Not Retro, Just Real!

The Frazer Diner sits on the north side of Route 30 in Frazer, PA, USA. If you’re passing through this area and you’re looking for a true diner experience, then the Frazer Diner is the place to go.

The Frazer Diner, Frazer PA (USA).

You can smell the eggs and bacon frying as soon as you pass through the door. The place has the long counter with the pastries under glass at your elbow and the pass through from the kitchen straight ahead. Check out that giant coffee urn, too. Probably five gallons of joe on hand just in case you need to revive from a wicked night on the town. There are some tables along the other wall, but the counter is where the action is. Conversation between the customers and so forth will give you a reason to listen and laugh. Good club sandwich if you’re there for lunch. Either way, enjoy it. There aren’t too many places like this left.
