Bavaria Restaurant, Aruba (Feb. 2014)

Bavaria Restaurant is a unique spot in Aruba, a rare German restaurant among all the other eateries. I’ve been here several times before. The food, hospitality, and beer selection are all consistent. Let me repeat, if you like German beer, you’ll find it here, such as this example:

As mentioned above, the food is authentically German, such as a potato pancake appetizer.

Or maybe you’d like to have a real pretzel with mustard like this one:

There are a nice selection of entrees, including this mixed sausage platter with red cabbage and mashed potatoes.

So, when you’re on the island and hankering for the different, give Bavaria a try. The people are friendly, the food good, and the prices very reasonable. You’ll also find some zany decor, including cuckoo clocks and various scenes from Bavaria. Enjoy!

High Tech Lunch (Aruba)

Compared to the previous post, lunch today was decidedly downscale. Still, it was very good. Since I was alone, I like to catch up on my reading and video viewing (something I would never do in the company of others.) Hence, I tote the iPad along. Here’s a view of the BBQ lunch at Lady Face a Chinese bar/restaurant in Paradera, Aruba, DWI.

Took a seat at the bar and took my time eating all that food, which is a typical Sunday BBQ in Aruba. Here’s another angle of just the food:

Normally, people stop by and get this to go. I’d rather enjoy it fresh from the grill, which is why I stay at the bar. You get about 1/3 of a chicken, several ribs, fried rice, coleslaw, and a bit of corn on the cob all for the current price of 15 florins, about US$9. You have to pace yourself to eat that much, which is the reason for the iPad. Some leisurely reading will take you through the whole meal. Enjoy!

:30 Chicken Shoarma Platter (Aruba)

I’ve posted about Sultan restaurant in Aruba several times before. This place has been very consistent over the years. Furthermore, in keeping with my shorter videos, I made this :30 one showing you my favorite dish, the chicken shoarma platter.

I’ve heard this place will be under new ownership soon, but with the same kitchen staff. If there are any major changes, I’ll update with another video, hopefully with an interview to gain some insight. Bon dia.

Salsa Pica, Aruba (December 2013)

There are many Colombian people in Aruba. Naturally, the local cuisine is influenced by their tastes. On the table at the Colombian and other local restaurants, you’ll frequently find a small cub containing a spicy sauce usually referred to as “salsa pica.” Here’s a look:

The sauce is fortified with Madam Jeanette peppers as well as onions, carrots, peppers, and a few other treats. It has a sort of bulk to go with the heat, traits that I find particularly appealing. Put a dab on your meat or fish of choice for a surprising taste. You might like it. Bon dia.
