Wonton Soup, interpreted in Aruba

A couple of posts ago, I showed the menu for White Modern Cuisine, a restaurant here in Aruba that (in my humble opinion) is about the best on the island. There I was a couple of nights ago, having a few drinks and got a hankering for a snack, something that only happens 9.34 times out of ten. Gazing at the menu, I spotted the wonton soup, thinking… hmmmmmm. Well, it was worth the try and below you’ll see why. It comes in two parts. First:

Part 1 of White Modern Cuisine wonton soup.

Those wontons above are crispy and packed with flavor. The other ingredients are as fresh as you can get. Then there is Part 2, delivered by the waiter as you see here.

White Modern Cuisines, wonton soup, Part 2.

That’s right, he pours the broth over the top while you watch. Hot, fresh, tasty. The broth is subtle, adding the kind of reliable base that only makes the other individual components stand out more. And those tiny wontons released flavor with every chew. Of course, you can see the crispy carrot and chives which blended in perfectly. Yeah, I like this place. If all goes well, I’ll have a video soon. Bon dia. (And please, eat SLOWLY. Enjoy your food.)

White Modern Cuisine, Aruba, menu

White Modern Cuisine (in my humble opinion) is about the best restaurant in Aruba right now. Urvin Croes, the chef, takes his food very seriously and you can watch him plating the meals for proof. Lately, people have been asking me what’s on the menu and the prices and so forth. Thus, here is the “new” menu as photographed last evening:

Here’s the next leaf in the menu:

And the final part as shown here:

In the next post, I’ll show the wonton soup which is listed among the appetizers. I had this as a late-night snack and was very pleased. The food here is very upscale, meaning small portions, super high quality ingredients, and dramatic presentation. If you ask me, worth every single penny! Plans have been made for several visits this month, as the budget permits. Bon dia.

Dushi Bagels and More! video

Dushi Bagels and Burgers & Burgers share the same operation in front of the Playa Linda along Aruba’s high-rise hotel area. For breakfast, lunch, or dinner, they offer you plenty of options, from a sesame bagel with cream cheese to a bacon cheeseburger to a chicken dinner. Here’s the video with plenty of details.

Those prices are very reasonable, which means you won’t break the bank when munching on your favorites. Dushi Bagels and Burgers & Burgers are a great alternative for a casual meal so give them a try if you’re looking for something easy. Bon dia.

Yemanja, Aruba

It had been about four years since my last visit to Yemanja’s wood-fired grill, which was far too long. So, I enjoyed an excellent supper there last night with friends. We were a table of four beginning with drinks at the bar then taking a seat. Our appetizers arrived in short order and ranged across the food spectrum. There was a scallop salad seen here:

It was bursting with color and flavor as was the prosciutto salad seen next.

To go with two salads there were also two soups, including this tomato one:

As well as the potato soup pictured below:

These were really a great start to the meal. Although different there was a consistent, high quality about every plate. The entrees were equally delicious, starting with a cheese wrapped grouper in the photo below:

That was a very exotic dish with an interesting consistency. Then came a rib eye you see here:

Two other diners enjoyed the filet which is pictured next.

The sauce in the upper portion of the photo was a combination of clarified butter and beef juices. Wow! That really took it to the next level. Of course, we had to have dessert after such a great meal. Hence, the brownie with ice-cream:

And finally a banana tarte which is here:

There you have it, another awesome meal in Aruba. It did cost a serious price, one that will have me eating beans and rice at home for a couple of weeks while the wallet gets a recharge, but it was worth every penny.
