Baby Beach Improvements

Aruba’s Baby Beach is a popular place for visitors and locals alike. The calm, sheltered water makes for easy swimming. The powder soft sand is comfortable, too. Lately, there have been a number of improvements to the area including a new wall separating the parking area from the beach, new palapa huts with permanent bases, and another snack shack. Here are some photos:

babimpr4Doesn’t that water look nice? Really, it is that blue.

babimpr2You can hang out in the shade when you’re not in the water. You and ten of your friends. Or go get a snack at the following place:

babimpr3And finally, here is a shot of the masonry wall just for eye candy.

babimpr1Enjoy your day at Baby Beach. Don’t forget the sunscreen, big hat, and plenty of water. On your way to your accommodations, why not stop by Charlie’s Bar for a beverage and plenty of fun? Sure, it’s the right thing to do.

Mangel Halto Improvements

In a previous post, I noted the fine snorkeling that can be done at Mangel Halto in Aruba. Lately there have been some improvements begun. There were only a few palapas there for shade. It seems there will be new ones installed, this time with concrete bases. They’ve also been building stone walls along the edge of the bluff. Here are a few photos.

mangel3And finally…

mangel11The water is that blue, that clear. An acquaintance of mine, (Kent, master snorkeler, fisherman extraordinaire) checks the sea life here on a regular basis. He tells me there are plenty of creatures to view. I’ve seen the photos that prove it.

Enjoy the ocean responsibly and don’t forget your safety gear.

Japengo Restaurant, Aruba

Japengo is one of the fine restaurants located at the Hyatt Resort in Aruba. This is the second time I’ve eaten there, the first being last year. The food is distinctly Asian in origin, complete with a full service sushi bar. As you would expect, service is excellent, the setting beautiful, and quality of the food extraordinary. So, let’s take a look at some of the dishes we enjoyed.

To start, my wife ordered a spicy tuna roll seen here:

peng4My mother had the chicken lemongrass as seen below.

peng6And I had the lobster/shrimp eggrolls with sweet/spicy dip.

peng7Entrees were very inventive as you will soon see. My mother and father both ordered the Marco Polo, which is a small lobster tail, shrimp, and small filet over pasta in a delicious sauce. Here’s a photo of the dish.

peng2My wife choose the Japanese Sea Bass with asparagus, also excellent and here is a photo.

peng1Finally, I choose the Hunan Beef, which was very good and seen below.

peng3Every dish is presented as a work of art and the waiters take pride in their service. The prices are at the upper limit of my budget, but I felt that all things considered the meal was a good value. When next in Aruba, give Japengo a try. You’ll love it.

Dushi Bagels, Aruba

Dushi Bagels near the Casa del Mar in the low-rise hotel area of Aruba will satisfy that urge you might have for your favorite baked item. Here’s a photo so you’ll recognize the place.

dushi1As the name implies, they have “authentic New York bagels,” which after being on the island for a while you probably have to have. I stop in here from time to time and have not been disappointed.

dushi2As you can see there is plenty of seating if you want to enjoy your bagel in the sunshine. While we all want to try local cuisine or something different, sometimes its the old favorites that must be satisfied. Give this place a try. It might do the trick.
