High Tech Lunch (Aruba)

Compared to the previous post, lunch today was decidedly downscale. Still, it was very good. Since I was alone, I like to catch up on my reading and video viewing (something I would never do in the company of others.) Hence, I tote the iPad along. Here’s a view of the BBQ lunch at Lady Face a Chinese bar/restaurant in Paradera, Aruba, DWI.

Took a seat at the bar and took my time eating all that food, which is a typical Sunday BBQ in Aruba. Here’s another angle of just the food:

Normally, people stop by and get this to go. I’d rather enjoy it fresh from the grill, which is why I stay at the bar. You get about 1/3 of a chicken, several ribs, fried rice, coleslaw, and a bit of corn on the cob all for the current price of 15 florins, about US$9. You have to pace yourself to eat that much, which is the reason for the iPad. Some leisurely reading will take you through the whole meal. Enjoy!

:30 Chicken Shoarma Platter (Aruba)

I’ve posted about Sultan restaurant in Aruba several times before. This place has been very consistent over the years. Furthermore, in keeping with my shorter videos, I made this :30 one showing you my favorite dish, the chicken shoarma platter.

I’ve heard this place will be under new ownership soon, but with the same kitchen staff. If there are any major changes, I’ll update with another video, hopefully with an interview to gain some insight. Bon dia.

Cultural Mashup in Aruba

In Aruba, you’ll find a crossroads of various cultures including Caribbean, European, South American, North American, and Chinese to name a few. A perfect illustration of this is the “Refresqueria Banzai” which is a little rum shop in the middle of Oranjestaad that you see in this photo:

Here you can get cold drinks, snacks, and more. Not sure exactly how the “banzai” fits in, but I’ll check it out soon. Going to make a little video of the Chinese operated rum shops and restaurants very soon. Therefore, you’ll want to check back frequently here at BentPage to view the latest. Bon dia.

Sunday BBQ, Aruba, (iPhone video)

Needing a good reason to test the video capabilities of my iPhone 4s, I ventured to my usual Sunday BBQ joint in Paradera, Aruba. The correct name for this joint is “Lady Face.” It is operated by a bunch of Chinese people who work hard nearly every day of the year.  On Sundays, they fire up the charcoal grills and roast a bunch of chicken and ribs that are a staple for many families on the weekend. For the current price (December 2013) of 15 florins (about $8USD) you get 1/4 chicken, 1/4 rack of ribs, rice, cole slaw, and a chunk of corn on the cob. Not a bad price for all that food. So, here’s the video that shows you the whole process:

Wow, what a feed! Not for the timid stomachs out there, but very filling, which means nothing to eat until tomorrow. Bon dia!
