Canton Overseas, Aruba

Canton Overseas is a little bar/restaurant I stumbled into last week while running errands on the east side of Oranjestaad. I like small, local joints for snacks or an ice-cold Coca-Cola. Passing by this place, I saw a pleasant looking Chinese woman working an outdoor grill with real charcoal under the metal. I thought to myself, hey, this is worth a try. In I go to find a buffet line with roast chicken, ribs, fried rice, and a bunch of other items. Naturally, I ordered up a couple of plates. Check it out.

Simple fare to be sure. That’s roast chicken and a some pieces of spicy chicken, too. The nice thing was, you could buy each piece and mix and match. Can’t beat that for variety and value. Two platters as shown, with tap water followed by a Coca-Cola cost all of 21 florins, about 12-13 US dollars. Great price. I’ve been back a few times with good results. The young man working behind the bar has also taught me some Chinese words which will come in handy sooner or later.

Bon dia.

Jules Thin Crust, Again!

A long time ago, I posted about Jules Thin Crust, a pizza joint in Doylestown, PA. This joint deserves another post because the pizza is that good, especially if you’re keeping your gluten and carb levels down.

Above you see the portabello mushroom with carmelized onions on the left and the four cheese special.

Just above you have sausage, onions, and peppers. Yeah, sometimes I eat my pizza with a fork and a knife. Keeps things tidy and shirt fronts unstained. Jules is easy to find, right on the main drag through Doylestown. I’ve consumed serious quantities of this pizza and have always enjoyed it.

Señor Frogs, Aruba

Señor Frogs is a fun place to have a snack and a drink. They recently relocated from the seaport area to the boulevard along the highrise hotel strip. They’re located just across the street from the Radisson now. It’s easy to find, just look for the frog.

Catchy advertising there. You’ll also find some unique seating as shown below.

This place fills up quickly. And now that they’re close to the hotels you can have a few and not worry about driving back to the hotel. Just be careful walking.

Enjoy your party in a responsible way. Bon dia from Aruba.

Eating on the Road, Spain

Well, not literally eating on the road, but rather making a stop at a joint just off the highway in Spain for a much needed meal. After all, I was hiking around castles and churches all morning and worked up a good appetite. (I’ve mentioned this a lot lately here on the Bent Page.) Rolling down the exit ramp, I spotted this sign:

Man, couldn’t go wrong, right? Especially since the parking lot was loaded with trucks and construction vehicles. In I go, getting a table on the far side of the room where I could watch the crowd. Food was hearty and tasty, a good combination to refuel for more traipsing about the ruins of Spain. I enjoyed the sausage soup and here’s a photo to show you.

Service was quick, which I appreciate when enroute to the night sight. Not every meal has to be an event. Some are for strictly nutritional purposes rather than entertainment.
