The Sultan, directions and food

Regular readers of The Bent Page have seen posts about The Sutlan, a middle-eastern restaurant located in Aruba. Well, here’s another post about this place, including a video with driving directions and a look at the food. You’ll also see the menu. Take the opportunity to use the “pause button” to check out what’s on offer and the prices. Those numbers are in florins, divide by 1.75 to get dollars. Here’s the video:

The footage was taken on a Sunday when a local bed and breakfast operator hosts his guests at the large table. What a spread The Sultan puts on for them! A sampler of most all the dishes that people can feast upon as they desire. This is a great way to try the many flavors without ordering an entire plate for yourself. One of the things I like most about the restaurant is the consistency, always hot and tasty. La Sultana is the nice young lady who provides table service. She’s from Colombia, hence the moniker, “La Sultana.”

Bon dia from Aruba.

Driving to Casa Vieja, Aruba

Sure, I posted before about Casa Vieja, which is my favorite Colombian restaurant in Aruba. This time, we’re going to drive there, the way I’ve been doing to quite a few places. This makes them easy to find when you visit the island. You can also pause the video to check out the menu. Okay, here we go, driving to Casa Vieja, staring on the main highway from the hotel area to the Queen Beatrix Airport, all the way to the restaurant. Start your engines:

How do you like that Bandeja Paisa platter? Quite a meal, eh? Don’t forget the cholesterol lowering medication of your choice. Bon dia from Aruba.

Driving to the Hollywood Smokehouse, Aruba

Finding the Hollywood Smokehouse Diner in Aruba is easy, especially if you can vicariously drive there. I made the following video because people have been asking EXACTLY how to get to the joint. Put on your glasses and take notes. Use the HD function if you want the best view. Here we go.

Now you’re all set. When you arrive in Aruba and have a hankering for quality BBQ at very reasonable prices, all you have to do is fire up the fun machine and get on the roll.

Bon dia.

King Ribs, Aruba

King Ribs is what the name implies, a king of ribs in Oranjestaad, Aruba. I’ve wanted to get to this place for a long time, and finally did yesterday for the Sunday BBQ fest that happens each week all across the island. Here’s a look at the joint from street level.

There are two guys working the grills full time, slapping down ribs, chicken, and such delectables atop the hot coals. Here they are in action.

The smell wafting out of here is all the advertising they need. Take a look at the menu to see what’s on offer and the corresponding prices.

Please note those prices are in Florins. Divide by 1.75 to get the price in US dollars. In other words, the prices are very reasonable, especially for the quantity of the food you get. Let’s take a look at the chow.

On the left is the four piece chicken meal, complete with corn on the cob, boiled plantain, smashed potatoes. On the right you have the large ribs with the same sides. These two boxes easily fed three people. Maybe you like more in your belly. If so, order up accordingly. A line does form here, so you may want to call ahead. It’s also fun to watch the pit masters at work, chat with others waiting, and take in the local scene. Either way, you’ll enjoy the fun and flavor at King Ribs.

Bon dia.
