Driving to Mangel Halto, Aruba, video

Mangel Halto is a great place to go snorkeling. If you remember my video from several posts ago, AurbaBob (aka Kent) takes his guests snorkeling at this spot. Well, here’s a video showing you how to drive there. Just take the 1A from the hotel area, south toward San Nicolaas, past the airport, and my video picks up as you approach the traffic light at Balashi.

That was easy. You’ll see people gather here for the sunset, too. Maybe check out Mangel Halto the next time you’re in Aruba. Bon dia.

White Modern Cuisine, Aruba

White Modern Cuisine opened about a month ago here in Aruba. It’s located in the Palm Beach Mall on the upper level. As the name implies, the restaurant is decorated in a simple white theme as you can see here.

The food is truly at the top of what you’ll find on the island. Seriously. I had the good fortune of arriving a little early for my reservation and getting a table with a view toward the kitchen. It was possible to see the chef plating the dishes, and this fellow is a craftsman. We started with two appetizers. First, the scallops. Take a look.

The second appetizer was maple glazed duck with apple compote and more. Check it out.

The combination of flavors on the above plate were brilliant. Due to my limited culinary vocabulary, it’s difficult for me to describe it accurately. Suffice it to say, it was damn good (my highest rating). Now for the entrees. There was the chef’s fish, a mahi mahi as seen here.

And then a filet atop caramelized onions with a little salad and the best french fries I’ve had on the island.

Sorry, no room for dessert. However, there was a pair of mojitos flavored with a hint of passion fruit and the person guzzling them said they were her favorite. White is worth you money and time when you’re here in Aruba. The place deserves to be full every night. Bon dia or should I say, bon appetit?

Scott’s Brats, Aruba

Palm Beach, Aruba, offers a long stretch of warm sand, blue water, and plenty of sunshine. Now, there’s Scott’s Brats, a snack stand serving up Wisconsin-style brats among other things. Here’s my interview with the owner and a look at the food:

Leslie and Scott are doing well at that great location near the Playa Linda. With breakfast and lunch right there on the beach, you hardly have to leave until the sun goes down. Enjoy your stay in Aruba and all it has to offer.

Mini Cooper, Aruba

Some years ago, I owned one of the new Mini Cooper cars. It was a great machine, a roller-skate that was fun to drive. I was surprised to find a few of the original Mini’s here in Aruba. Such as this one at the Sky Dive operation.

The car is in good shape for living on a tropical island. I chatted with the owner and hope to do an interview with him for my Doin’ Time With Dan videos. Here’s another look at the car.

I imagine there are lots of relics rolling around the Caribbean, and not just in Cuba, either. There are a number of classic cars and pickup trucks here in Aruba, not to mention things like juke boxes, Coca-Cola machines, and so on. Sometimes the sights are not on the beach. Keep looking, you may find a diamond in the rough!
