Lunch on a Plane

If you think about it, serving a meal aboard an airliner is no easy feat. In the first place, the galley is effectively the size of a closet. Then there are all the safety concerns. Furthermore, keeping things hot and/or cold is a challenge. As if that wasn’t enough, airlines have to deal with suppliers in various countries during the course of a route. Somehow, things come out okay. In fact, I would say in the past several years, airline food has improved. Here’s a look at a recent lunch aboard American Airlines:

There’s a nice variety of food on that tray, including a fresh salad, an entree, and the salmon. A few moments later, a whole wheat role was added. If I ate portion this size it would probably go a long way toward my weight control program. I found this meal to be tasty and a nice treat during a long flight. Food is good for morale and good food makes for better morale. Enjoy every meal.

Jack’s B-B-Q, Nashville, USA

Well, I thought I had the best brisket platter in my life a couple of times. In Texas, in the Carolinas, even in Aruba, I’ve had some darn good brisket. And then, I arrived in Nashville and went to Jack’s on Broadway, where all the music joints are located.

Just walking in this joint, I knew it was going to be good. The delicious aroma was the first giveaway, as was the line, as were the smiles on everyone’s faces. Here’s a look at the interior:

So, I belly up to the buffet line and order a mixed meat platter as well as a brisket platter. Sides included baked beans, cole slaw, mac and cheese, et al. See the photo below:

The first bite of brisket was truly a WOW moment. Cooked low and slow with the right amount of smoke and love, that brisket topped my taste bud chart by far. The other meats, smoked sausage and ribs were darn good, too. I could see myself becoming a regular at this joint. Better renew my gym membership while I’m at it.

Bavaria German Restaurant, Aruba (2014)

I usually stop in to Bavaria German Restaurant during each visit to Aruba. Bavaria serves up all your German food favorites with plenty of beer choices as well. Owner Peter and his team are happy to explain the different beers, so don’t be afraid to ask. I tried a couple, including this one:

Of course I wanted to have a typical German meal and went with the bratwurst, mashed potatoes, and red cabbage that you see next:

The spicy mustard really makes the taste pop. Indulge liberally in that. The prices here are excellent, giving you good value for your money, within sight of the big hotels on Palm Beach. During the meal, I had a very interesting conversation, learning things about Germany and that part of Europe. Enjoy every meal!

Apple Pie Cupcakes

Thanks to The Classic Diner (Malvern, PA, USA), my dessert habit remains in full effect. They recently announced the availability of apple pie cupcakes. These delicious bundles of goodness have an apple pie like filling with butter creme icing drizzled with caramel. Yeah, triple down on the flavor. Here’s a look:

Wow, are the ever tasty! I’ve been rationing myself one per day. May have to make a re-supply run very soon. Enjoy every meal!
