Interview with ATV 15, Aruba

This afternoon, Yentl Lieuw of ATV 15, Aruba’s NBC affiliate, interviewed me about my novels, An Island Away and Under A Blue Flag. This was fun and informative, working with professional news people, seeing them practicing their craft. Here’s a still shot of my mug.

Next time, I’ll be sure not to reach for the water bottle when someone is taking a snap. Ah, no worries. I enjoy these interviews. Lots of fun talking about books, writing, Aruba, three of my favorite subjects. I only wish I could go back and edit, the way it’s possible to polish up a paragraph in a book. That way, no one gets to see the mistakes.

Dushi Bagels and More! video

Dushi Bagels and Burgers & Burgers share the same operation in front of the Playa Linda along Aruba’s high-rise hotel area. For breakfast, lunch, or dinner, they offer you plenty of options, from a sesame bagel with cream cheese to a bacon cheeseburger to a chicken dinner. Here’s the video with plenty of details.

Those prices are very reasonable, which means you won’t break the bank when munching on your favorites. Dushi Bagels and Burgers & Burgers are a great alternative for a casual meal so give them a try if you’re looking for something easy. Bon dia.

Yemanja, Aruba

It had been about four years since my last visit to Yemanja’s wood-fired grill, which was far too long. So, I enjoyed an excellent supper there last night with friends. We were a table of four beginning with drinks at the bar then taking a seat. Our appetizers arrived in short order and ranged across the food spectrum. There was a scallop salad seen here:

It was bursting with color and flavor as was the prosciutto salad seen next.

To go with two salads there were also two soups, including this tomato one:

As well as the potato soup pictured below:

These were really a great start to the meal. Although different there was a consistent, high quality about every plate. The entrees were equally delicious, starting with a cheese wrapped grouper in the photo below:

That was a very exotic dish with an interesting consistency. Then came a rib eye you see here:

Two other diners enjoyed the filet which is pictured next.

The sauce in the upper portion of the photo was a combination of clarified butter and beef juices. Wow! That really took it to the next level. Of course, we had to have dessert after such a great meal. Hence, the brownie with ice-cream:

And finally a banana tarte which is here:

There you have it, another awesome meal in Aruba. It did cost a serious price, one that will have me eating beans and rice at home for a couple of weeks while the wallet gets a recharge, but it was worth every penny.

Pasteleria La Delizia, Aruba, video

Pasteleria La Delizia is a new find for me here on the island of Aruba. Some friends recommended it for fresh baked goods and I’m glad they did. Here’s my video visit, complete with driving directions so you’ll know how to find it easily. (Believe me, it’s easy to get there!)

Since way back when I’ve been a pastry junkie, and this place will give me another spot to indulge the vice. Plus the fresh bagels, rolls, and bread, will go a long way to making an average meal a whole lot better. Nothing better than fresh baked bread to enhance the flavor of your favorite sandwich. If you’re on the island, check this place out. Bon dia.
