Bingo’s Restaurant, Aruba

A quick look through my blog posts will reveal that I eat my share of local food here in Aruba. I’ll try most any Colombian restaurant, not to mention the Chinese and Indonesian ones as well. That said, I get a craving for a cheeseburger that has to be satisfied. Thus, I went to Bingo’s, which is located a kilometer or two from the high rise hotels on Palm Beach. They have an excellent burger and here is a video to prove it.

You’ll find plenty of people from the Netherlands here. I’ve had many great conversations with them. Slow by slow I’m picking up some Dutch words and phrases. This will be helpful as I’d like to get to Holland soon.

At any rate, if you need a burger, or some good drinks, or something else to eat, try Bingo’s. You won’t be disappointed.

The World, (ResidenSea Vessel), Aruba

The World is a unique way to own a vacation home. Imagine a cruise ship where you own your suite. They have studio apartments as well as one and two bedroom units that you can purchase. The best part about this concept is that the ship moves from port to port, traversing the world to a new destination on a regular basis. Here is a short video of The World as spotted in Oranjestad, Aruba.

Readers of this blog know that I love to travel and owning my own apartment on a ship sounds like a great idea. Don’t have the money just yet and I prefer to stay put for a little longer than a few days. Still, the concept is very appealing. And if I hit the lottery, I might just grab one of these places for the fun of it.

St. Francis Church, Aruba

There are many beautiful churches in Aruba. I made this video of St. Francis Catholic Church in Oranjestad. With the church, I included shots of the nearby Catholic Cemetery. There are many fine statues there and a small chapel, too. It’s worth a quick look around. Here is the video:

The music is “Santa Maria” by Los Niños de Sara. As you can see, there are several fine stained glass windows in the church and a few notable shrines. I’ve seen the faithful come here on various occasions. The level of their devotion is impressive.

Regular readers of this blog will know that I enjoy visiting sites such as this, particularly when they are in use. Whether it be Spain or Aruba or elsewhere, it is an authentic experience to see the people of a particular place living their culture. Furthermore, when experienced “live” you get a better sense of the actual rhythm of daily life as opposed to what you might hear from a guide or read in a book.

Palm Beach, Aruba (video)

Palm Beach, Aruba, hosts a line of high-rise hotels. This beach is wide, clean, and inviting. The Caribbean is always warm. Depending upon the wind direction, the water is either as calm as a millpond or rolling to shore in small waves. Take a look at the video.

I took this video later in the afternoon when many people have left the beach. There are palapa huts along the beach, usually maintained by the hotels. These have to be occupied early, as many people stake them out all day. You’ll also find that some hotels offer drink service on the beach. Quite convenient. Along the way are two piers where you’ll find bars, water sports equipment rentals, and your fellow beach lovers enjoying themselves.

Be careful because the sun is strong in Aruba!
